In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…
QUESTION: A man who wanted to offer an Udhiyah Sacrifice forgetfully shaved his hair during the [first] ten days of Thul-Hijjah, How can this be corrected or compensated for?
ANSWER by the Permanent Committee for Religious Verdicts, headed by Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allah have Mercy on him):
لا شيء عليه؛ لقول الله عز وجل: {رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا} وصح عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أن الله سبحانه قال: “قد فعلت” خرجه مسلم في صحيحه.
There is nothing he has to do [to rectify that], due to the Statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic [which means]: “Our Lord! Do not hold us accountable when we forget or err…” [2:286], and it was authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah -may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace- that Allah, the Exalted, has said, “I have done that.” This was collected by Muslim in his Saheeh [Compilation].
And through Allah Alone is all success. May Allah raise the rank of our Prophet Muhammad, and that of his family and companions, and may He grant them all peace.

As salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu firstly please forgive me as I cannot find a thread to pose this question on…
Currently the Muslim women have been getting their hair done with Brazilian yarn achieving the look of braided hair extensions this yarn resembles real hair and it is made to make the hair appear longer than what it is. Could you please provide some clarity on whether or not this is permissible and also about yarn braids in general as it is something that is very widespread at this time.
Baarak Allahu Feeka
Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuh. When yarn or any material is used to tie the hair back, or as a bow, that is permissible and problem-free. However, if yarn or any material is being added to the length of the hair as a hair extension, appearing as hair itself, then the base ruling on hair extensions of any material, and those who put them in, is the curse of Allah and His Messenger (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace), as found in Saheeh al-Bukhaaree. Anyone who claims that only human hair is forbidden, and extensions made from synthetic or animal hair are permissible, must provide clear evidence which gives us confidence that such things are not included in the severe prohibition. If that is not accomplished with clarity, then there is nothing like safety in one’s religion, and why would someone gamble with the Curse of Allah, hoping that their extension is exempted? Why not just be safe and distant from the Limits of Allah, as is befitting the believer? And Allah knows best!
as Salaamu alaykum. May Allah bless you. what about these fatwa from major scholars. Please help with clarity Insha Allah.
“…Apparently, what is prohibited is extending the hair with human hair for it implies a form of deception and also implies using hair that scholars hold different opinions regarding its impurity. Other than that is not prohibited for it lacks those reasons of prohibition and it achieves some benefits like the woman beautifying herself for her husband without causing any harm…”
“There is nothing wrong with using Qaraamil (threads of silk or wool that are made into braids with which the woman extends her hair)…” [comment abridged by admin]
Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullah. This was already alluded to in my previous response: “Anyone who claims that only human hair is forbidden, and extensions made from synthetic or animal hair are permissible, must provide clear evidence which gives us confidence that such things are not included in the severe prohibition…” Evidence, dear sister, may Allah give you success, is QAAL ALLAH, WA QAAL AR-RASOOL, WA QAAL AS-SAHAABAH! (Allah said… The Messenger said… The Companion said…) Sure, opinions differ on some topics, but we have been given a clear Quranic methodology of guidance in resolving matters of differing: RETURN THE MATTER BACK TO ِALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace):
فإن تنازعتم في شيء فردوه إلى الله والرسول إن كنتم تؤمنون بالله واليوم الآخر
“Whenever you differ in any matter, return it back to Allah and the Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day…” [Quran 4:59]
Quite simply, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) forbade and cursed hair extensions and those who put them in. If someone claims, “But this material is exempted…” we need EVIDENCE, not more opinions, because the prohibition has been established with clear textual evidence, and the prohibition is a severe one indeed, involving the curses of Allah and His Messenger.
Our shaykh, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Aadam al-Ityoobee of Makkah quoted some of those opinions in his explanation of Sunan an-Nasaa’ee, and then he said (may Allah bless and preserve him):
“ًWhat is actually correct is what the majority were upon: All hair extensions are prohibited in general, whether they be real hair or anything else, except in cases of necessity, because of the authentic narrations about this, as has been explained. From them is the hadeeth of Mu’aawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), which has already been mentioned, in the story about the cloth. Also, from them is the hadeeth collected by Muslim in his Saheeh from the report of Jaabir (may Allah be pleased with him): “The Prophet (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) STRICTLY FORBADE a woman from extending her hair WITH ANYTHING.” The word “ANYTHING” is indefinite, which would include hair or anything else, so have insight, and do not fall into confusion!” [38/117-118]
This is a clear example of how a scholar returns a matter of differing back to the texts of the Book and the Sunnah for final determination. And Allah knows best.
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatu. First and foremost, may Allah reward you with much good for these explanations and I am very greatful for the clarity of them. Ameen. I apologise for requesting this; however, I am in need of further clarification just to have full understanding of the situation of one placing yarn in the hair. So in saying, there are sisters stating that one is able to put yarn in the hair, but it can’t go pass the length of the wearers hair for it is not adding the extension to the hair if it does not go pass the length of the person’s hair whom is wearing the yarn in the hair. My question is: Can you wear the yarn if it does not extend pass the wearer(s), of the yarn, own length of hair? This clarification is needed because of some sisters desires and, if there is a curse even in this, then I would not want the curse of Allah upon my sisters in this Deen. May Allah rectify our hearts and keep it firm upon this Deen. Ameen.
Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuh. Using yarn to tie some hair back, or like how a bow is used, is fine. It is just simply not the prohibited extension of hair. This is the same as a ribbon or a bow. I do not know anything about any restriction to the length of these things.
As salaam alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh . May Allah reward you for bringing clarity to this matter. I would like to ask about the permissibility in wearing a hairstyle called braidlocks. The woman has her natural hair braided in very small box braids. As the hair grows, the new growth from the scalp is retightened using a method called interlocking (the hair is woven or crossed in different directions using a tool, like a crochet hook. It is not painful, but the same braids remain in the hair for years without being unraveled. The braids are able to be washed and the scalp can be saturated for wudo and ghusl. It is not permanent but it is so tedious to unravel that most choose to cut the braids out. I was told that dreadlocks are not permitted… is this type of braids permitted?
Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuh. Dear sisters in Islam, your beauty is evident in your Islam! You are the most beautiful women on the planet! Your faces do not prostrate to other than Allah, your tongues do not declare any right to be worshipped for anyone but Allah! Your limbs are in total submission to none but Allah! You are our beloved and respected mothers, sisters, daughters, and spouses, and you are honored by Allah with Islam! You have been chosen and raised in rank, through towheed and following! You are not like the broken, insecure, wretchedly EXHAUSTED and UGLY women of this world, who have no internal beauty, no character, no Deen, and no substance to their existence, and therefore they spend their lives trying to over-compensate for a rotten core, spending their days and nights trying to decorate an outer shell!
Muslim women, honored servants of Allah! You are encouraged to beautify yourselves for your husbands, but be balanced. You are upright and beautiful already, because of your submission and obedience, as Allah has decreed for you to be! When you beautify yourself with modest grooming and even the most basic types of jewelry, you add beauty to the glowing beauty of what you already possess, by Allah’s Permission. Don’t let the Shaytaan whisper to you that you are deficient and you need to spend long hours decorating yourself in complex and cumbersome routines. You have classes to attend, Quran to review, children and family to check on, personal worship to tend to, your life is full of beauty, and the Shaytaan would love to drag you away from the sources of your real beauty that sets you apart from the superficial and frivolous women of this world!
What you have described in the question seems a bit much in my opinion, but I cannot say it is impermissible just because it sounds tedious. If such beautification requires so much time that it takes away from your obligations, then it is impermissible. If it takes you away from recommended things, then it is disliked. If it resembles the appearance of a group of disbelieving women, or disobedient women, then it is impermissible, due to the Prophet’s prohibition of imitating disbelievers and disobedient people (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace). If it involves physical or financial harm, then it is impermissible, according to the hadeeth (which means), “There is no harming or reciprocation of harm.” Otherwise, beautification for women is permissible, within the limits of Islamic manners, that this beautification is for one’s husband and close family, not something openly displayed. And Allah knows best.
Assalamu alaykum
Does the prohibition of trimming one’s hair and nails only apply to the head of the household, or the whole family?
Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullaah. It is just for the one intending the sacrifice, i.e. the head of household, as our scholars have mentioned (like the Lajnah, Shaykh Ibn Baaz & Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, and many others, may Allah have Mercy on them).
