  1. Assalaamu alaykum,
On page 112, activity 17.8 (crossword), the word for 4 DOWN is not missing because the word ‘scoff’ is already filled in. Therefore there is no blank space.
    BaarakAllahu feek

  2. Do you follow the opinion that if the moon is sighted anywhere in the world, then Ramadhaan (or ‘Eed) begins everywhere? Why do you follow the moon sighting of Saudi Arabia instead of that of America?

How can you say that if the moon was not sighted on the night of the twenty-ninth, then definitely tomorrow we fast and the day after that we celebrate ‘Eed? Perhaps the moon appears during the day of the 29th? Should we not look for it?

    • In Pittsburgh, our community chooses to follow the KSA sighting. We totally understand the position of our brothers who believe the local moon sighting of each land has more right to be followed. We see them upon khayr, and this is an issue of legitimate, understandable differing that we do not want to get exaggerated into blameworthy argumentation.

  3. Ustaadh can you please translate some biographies of the Salaf like Saeed Ibn Jubayr Abu Muslim Al Khawlanee and others from the students of the companions may Allaah the almighty be pleased with them, on your website? Or maybe you can do an audio file.
    May Allaah bless you.

  4. As salamu aleykum I wanted to ask if someone mocks the religion in a gathering and a person hears this and hates it, however he doesn’t denounce nor leave the gathering is this considered an act of apostasy?
    JazakAllahu kheir

    • Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaam. Hating the evil is the lowest level of acceptable faith, according to the hadeeth of Aboo Sa’eed in Saheeh Muslim:

«من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان»
“Whoever of you sees an evil thing, let him change it with his hand (when he is in authority). If he is incapable, then with his tongue. If he is incapable, then with his heart, and that is the weakest kind of faith.”

He is required to leave the gathering as well, due to the statement of Allah:

إذا سمعتم آيات الله يكفر بها ويستهزأ بها فلا تقعدوا معهم حتى يخوضوا في حديث غيره
“When you hear the Verses of Allah being disbelieved in and mocked, do not sit with them, until they change their topic to another…”
      [4:140]

“When you see those talking about Our Verses (with inappropriate speech), then turn away from them, until they change their topic to another…” [6:68]

Not leaving is very dangerous, because you are between a disastrous major sin and apostasy. In the verse of Soorah an-Nisaa’:

      إنكم إذا مثلهم

“Then you would be similar to them (without leaving)…” [4:140]

      And Allah knows best.

    • asalamulaikum warahamtullahi wabarakatuhu,
i have an important related question. Please help me with this.
is it okay for person, if they knows for sure that that they are too shy/weak to denounce and get up and leave in such situations, to avoid sitting with the people (particularly those they know are not religious) as much as possible to highly minimize the possibility of undergoing such scenario, perhaps taking this as lesser of two evils?
Or is it such that even if they successfully do something like this and get the hoped outcome (i.e of staying away from sitting with people and therefore never being faced a gathering where the religion is being mocked) they still have the original sin upon them because of the very fact that they are unable to denounce and leave such gatherings in the first place ?

    • Wa ‘alaykum as-Salaamu wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuh. The obligation on a person is to forbid the evil to the best of his ability. If he cannot advise them, then he must leave the gathering. If he is unable to take a stance as he leaves, he just leaves to protect himself from the evil and not to be considered similar to them in transgression, as Allah has commanded:

      وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتابِ أَنْ إِذا سَمِعْتُمْ آياتِ اللَّهِ يُكْفَرُ بِها وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِها فَلا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ إِنَّكُمْ إِذاً مِثْلُهُمْ
“And We have sent down to you in the Book that if you hear the Verses of Allah being disbelieved in or mocked, then do not sit with them until they speak about other topics, as you would be similar to them [in sin, if you did not leave].”
      (Quran 4:140)

      And Allah knows best.
