Daar al-Hadeeth al-Khayriyyah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia

In the Name of Allaah, the All-Merciful…

OVERVIEW

Daar Al-Hadeeth Al-Khayriyyah in Makkah, established in 1352 (around 1930 according to the Christian calendar), not only gives students in-depth understanding of the Sunnah and its sciences, it also includes studies in all areas of the Sharee’ah. The school consists of four departments: Elementary school level, middle school level, high school level, and college level.

The studies are very intense starting from the three-year middle school level, where students study classic texts like Al-Bayqooniyyah, Al-Aajroomiyyah, Al-Kawaakibud-Duriyyah, ‘Umdatul-Ahkaam, and Nuzhatun-Nathr.

In the three-year high school level, studies focus on books like Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, Sunan At-Tirmithee, Ar-Rowdul-Murbi’, Tadreebur-Raawee, Fat-hul-Majeed, and Fat-hul-Qadeer. All levels require students to memorize three juz of Qur’aan each year.

In the four-year college level students finish their studies of the remaining six books of Hadeeth: Saheeh Muslim, Aboo Daawood, Ibn Maajah, and An-Nasaa’ee. They also finish memorizing the Qur’aan with its tafseer, and study many other great books from the scholars of Islaam, like Ibn Abil-‘Izz’s Al-‘Aqeedatut-Tahaawiyyah, Ash-Showkaanee’s Naylul-Awtaar, Ibn Hishaam’s As-Seeratun-Nabawiyyah, and the Alfiyyah of Ibn Maalik among others. Students must also complete a research paper in a subject assigned to them by the administration in their final year.

 REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

Daar Al-Hadeeth applicants must first be residing legally in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and show proof for their legal residence. They must be able to communicate and study in Arabic also, as Daar Al-Hadeeth has no courses to teach Arabic to non-Arabic speakers. The applicant must have Islamic manners and an Islamic appearance. He must also read the Qur’aan very well, and be interviewed personally at the school. Here are the age requirements for each level, along with how much Qur’aan a student must have memorized to start in that level:

  • Middle school level – 15-20 years old with at least 3 juz
  • High school level – 18-25 years old with at least 9 juz
  • College level – 21 to 30 years old with at least 18 juz

The applicant must have finished his most recent studies no more than two years ago with at least a 75% average overall.  Applications are available from the school directly.

 ESTIMATED COSTS AND LIVING EXPENSES

Since the student may not work during his studies, he must have some other source of consistant income. Single students may get by (barely) with the SR 250 (about $65) monthly stipend and free housing, but married students will need more than the SR 500 (about $130) monthly stipend from the school, especially since the school does not have housing for all its married students. Living expenses in Makkah for a married student vary from $10,000 a year to $20,000 or higher, depending on the number of children, lifestyle, etc.

  1. Assalaamu Alaykum,

I am looking through the places of study in Saudiyyah and I have a question. What is the best place to study in Saudi in terms of knowledge, competitiveness in study and deen, notability and knowledge of instructors, and overall results of students?

I live in the West and I am a beginner (non-Arabic speaker) hoping in Allah to be able to seek ‘ilm. The place of study does not have to be a university program, but a place where deen studies are the best of the best. Also, are there other places not in Saudi that may be even better in terms of seeking ‘ilm? Jazakumullaahu khayran and I hope in Allah to get your answers soon.

  6. Dear Sir,

I take this as an opportunity to introduce myself as the parent of 4 children aged 16, 13, 12 and 11 years old of Swedish citizenships and they memorized 7 juz, 4 juz, 3 juz and 3 juz respectively. They are also good Arabic language and able to read & write.

We are writing to explore the possibility of joining as students of my children in your reputable school.
As per your school requirements one of the children completed the necessary criteria of admission & enrollment
and we are also asking your esteemed administration to accept the other three students to join together with your reliable school at the same time as we are going to move together from Sweden and stay Saudi Arabia as family.

We have been interested to study in your school as we know from the sources that you give more importance to the whole knowledge of Islamic religion than the other subjects. The teachers of your school are one of the best in the entire world of my knowledge and it would be a privilege to study under such brilliant and knowledgeable teachers.

Therefore, please help us to get a chance to study in your School and we are eager learning Qur’an kareem and the Islamic religion. We hope you will get in touch with us to know if our request has been approved.

Thank you for your time and consideration

    Sincerely,
    Ali Omar

    • May Allaah bless you and give you success. Our advice is make this request to the school itself, not informational websites like Bakkah.net, who have nothing to do with the administrations of any of the schools we provide information about.
