ARABIC KEYS, which come as stickers which can be applied to your current keyboard. NOTE: Clean your keyboard well before applying, and then expect these stickers to start peeling off in a few months. These stickers are not poor quality; it is just that stickers do not really remain on keyboards for long. In Point #6 of Risaalah Lateefah, the author stated:

"Issues which include pure benefits (i.e. without any harms) or mostly beneficial aspects (i.e. with limited and comparatively less harm) are things ordered by the Legislator (Allah), with orders indicating obligations or [at least] recommendations..."

He meant: That all matters of pure benefit are obligatory (waajib), and all matters of predominant benefit are recommended (mustahabb).

2 / 10

What was the author of Risaalah Lateefah talking about when he said the following?

3 / 10

Something which has a mix of harms and benefits, yet the small amount of benefit is outweighed by a greater level of harm, is correctly classified as:

Fardh Kifaayah (a community obligation).

5 / 10

Pooling Ideas: Advise Your Brothers & Sisters Trying to Get Married [Interactive]

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

Some of us were married, and those marriages did not work out. Instead of focusing on the negative side of such an event, let us be productive and help others by sharing what you would advise a brother or sister considering marriage to ask about before the marriage.

Others of us got married, and Allah blessed us with good marriages. This is also a great resource for others. Your success -a gift from Allah- includes steps in a process that worked out well. So share what worked out well for you, perhaps someone might find a great deal of benefit in it!

The topic is potentially very broad. Culture and local customs can play a role.

Let me begin by offering some general reminders that some of us might find helpful, by Allah’s Permission. (Contribute to the content of this article by using the “Leave a reply” feature below.)

1. Marry people of upright religion.

The Prophet (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) said:

إذا أتاكم من ترضون خلقه ودينه فزوجوه إن لا تفعلوا تكن فتنة في الأرض وفساد عريض
“When someone comes to you with manners and religion you are pleased with, then marry him [to your wards]. If you do not, there will be trials in the land and widespread corruption.” [1]

When a person fears Allah and upholds his/her duty to Allah, such a person will respect and honor your rights, since Allah is the One who gave each person their rights. Openly disobedient people show the world that they Continue reading

In anticipation of the seminar, Ustaadh Moosaa Richardson stated:

Upon visiting our brothers in Islam and Sunnah at Masjid Alfarouq in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) earlier this year, based on the advice of Shaykh Abu Muhammad al-Maghribi (may Allah preserve him), I was delighted to find such beautiful cooperation at an emerging community upon Salafiyyah there. May Allah bless them and increase them in good. Their good efforts to learn and host special events for the benefit of their community and the Muslims of Edmonton at large are exemplary and deserving of our support…

This upcoming fourth seminar, scheduled for the end of Muharram 1445 (August 16-20, 2023), in shaa’ Allah, is another five-day event, similar to the last one. This time, Shaykh Abu Muhammad will be broadening the focus of family matters to include more practical advice and guidance for parents and children, siblings, as well as spouses, in shaa’ Allah. I will continue sharing and explaining verses from the same poetry on Islamic Legal Maxims. After considering that a significant number of the local congregants grew up in communities and households where the Maalikee math-hab is taught, I thought to explain a small text in basic Islamic Creed by an exemplary Maalikee scholar of old, al-Imaam Ibn Abee Zayd al-Qayrawaanee (may Allah have Mercy on him).

This unique resource brings the amazing poem of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have Mercy on him) into the English Language for the very first time! From the introduction of the workbook written by Ustaadh Moosaa Richardson:

For those who did not know that our teacher, the great scholar, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have Mercy on him), actually wrote his own poetry, then this poem might come as one of the most pleasant surprises imaginable! This original poetry on the topic of Usool al-Fiqh, was actually composed by the shaykh himself and then explained in detail over many classes. The recordings of those sessions have been transcribed and published as a 384-page book, under the supervision of the shaykh’s charitable foundation. I have included an appendix in the back of this workbook which includes the entire poem in the shaykh’s own handwriting (!), as facilitated by the shaykh’s charitable foundation and found in the Ibn al-Jowzee printing (3rd ed., 1434). The recordings of his explanation are available at his website at the following address: https://binothaimeen.net/content/Menu/lessonsince?tid=1221 Continue reading

The Importance of Learning Usool al-Fiqh (Islamic Legal Maxims)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

The topic of Usool al-Fiqh (Islamic Legal Maxims) is extremely important for all those who wish to understand how evidences are applied to various situations. Ignorance of these principles and foundations can cause a total failure in understanding the verdicts of the scholars on modern issues of importance and their details and complexities. Without the tools by which to understand how the scholars derive and apply their rulings, even a sincere, truth-seeking individual from Ahlus-Sunnah might fail to understand their use of broadly applicable principles and foundations, and then falsely assume that they have spoken without evidence.

In his poetry on Usool al-Fiqh, the great scholar, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have Mercy on him), stated:

اغْتَنِمِ القَوَاعِدَ الأُصُولَا ## فَمَنْ تَفُتْهُ يُـحْرَمِ الوُصُولَا
Take advantage of the qawaa’id (principles) and usool (foundations),
Whoever misses them is deprived of attainment [of knowledge].

In his printed lessons explaining the poem, Sharh Manthoomat Usool al-Fiqh wa Qawaa’idihi (p.44), he explained:

This is a principle the scholars have: “Whoever is deprived of the foundations shall be deprived of arrival at his goal,” and they spoke the truth! Thus, we must be vigilant about understanding these principles, learning all that is included in them, researching them together, and asking those who know more than us about them, so we could actualize the point of studying them, with sincere intentions and good follow-through. Whoever misses out on these principles could only study Islamic knowledge issue by issue, one at a time, as he has no foundation to build anything on [for himself]. Thus, his knowledge is flawed, his thought process is slow and irregular, and he forgets issues easily…

Getting Serious in the Last Ten Nights of Ramadan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

There are two important narrations from our mother, the noble Companion, ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), which every Muslim should keep in mind as the last ten nights of Ramadan approach:

إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ: أَحْيَا اللَّيْلَ، وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ، وَجَدَّ وَشَدَّ الْمِئْزَرَ
“When the [last] ten [nights of Ramadan] began, he would stay up all night, wake his family, get [even more] serious, and tighten his lower garment.”

This hadeeth was collected by al-Bukhaaree (2024) and Muslim (1174).

In another authentic narration, she asked about what she should say if she were to reach Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of al-Qadr, and so the Messenger of Allah (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) told her to say: Continue reading

Vaccines are Permissible; Differing on the Topic Ended Long Ago, as Salafi Scholars Have Said

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

Recently, we learned from our respected scholar, Shaykh ‘Abdullah al-Bukhary (may Allah preserve him), that the scholarly differing over the permissibility of vaccines had actually come to an end long ago, when he informed us:

فقد تكلم أهل العلم حول هذه القضية منذ زمن طويل لما بدأ ظهر أمر اللقاحات حصل بين ذلك أخذ وعطاء فيما مضى، ثم استقر الأمر على أن هذا الأمر من الأمور التي لا تنافي التوكل ولا تضادُّه، إنما هي من الأخذ بالأسباب الشرعية

“…The people of knowledge have indeed spoken about this issue, a long time ago, when the issue of vaccinations first came about. Some back and forth discussion took place in the past, until the matter was settled, that this is one of those issues that does not invalidate tawakkul (trusting Allah) nor contradict it. It is merely an issue of taking legislated steps [of safety]…”

Source: The recently published article, “Is it Sinful to Discourage People From Taking the Covid-19 Vaccine?” (click here to read)

This was surprising for many to learn about, as some had presumed that the scholars still differed over this topic. One might say: “Perhaps Shaykh Abdullah al-Bukhary misspoke when saying this, as we have not heard this from the people of knowledge (other than him), and claiming consensus is a very serious issue, as an established consensus among the scholars actually ends the discussion.”  Continue reading

COMPILATION: The Speech of the Salafi Scholars About Covid-19 & Other Helpful Resources

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

The following is a compilation of very important resources from the Salafi scholars living through this pandemic, aware of its specific details, in order to return matters of global emergencies to those qualified to speak about them for proper determination, as Allah has commanded:

return things to ahlul ilm in nawaazil

One of the most important and relevant resources on the topic for us in the West is this: Five questions from Ustaadh Moosaa Richardson posed to the senior authority of Fatwaa (Religious Verdicts) in this time, the Mufti Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Aal Shaykh (may Allah preserve him):

  1. How do we know exactly what nawaazil (pending issues in need of verdicts) are…?

  2. What should be done if we enter a mosque these days -the days of the Coronavirus-, and we find that the people of this masjid are not distancing themselves from one another, nor are they implementing the safety protocols of the authorities, in non-Muslim lands…?

  3. In the West, we have some doctors among the Muslims, people of Sunnah and [good practice of] Religion, people known for their love of Islamic knowledge and its dissemination. However, in these days specifically, they oppose the official Health agencies, saying that there is no need for the well-known protocols of safety which those officials instruct the people to observe…?

  4. What should be our stance on those who talk about So-and-So, the government official, in their private gatherings, actually naming one of the authorities in the land of the Two Sacred Mosques, saying that he is causing corruption in the land, because he closes mosques and puts restrictive limits on those who come for Hajj and ‘Umrah, requiring them to follow harsh safety restrictions, which leads to the ruin of the sacred places [of worship]?

  5. What is our stance on those who say that the governmental leaders in the Land of Tawheed have made decisions during this pandemic based on blindly following the West, without consulting the people of knowledge?

On Friday nights at the First Muslim Mosque in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA), and live online on the masjid’s radio station, Ustaadh Moosaa Richardson reads this classic primer in Islamic beliefs by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have Mercy on him), along with the explanation of Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree (may Allah preserve him). The Course: An-Nawawee’s Forty Hadeeth

Shortly after my return to America, our respected community at al-Masjid al-Awwal in Pittsburgh suggested that I teach the Forty Hadeeth Collection of al-Haafidh an-Nawawee (may Allah have Mercy on him), along with the explanation of one of my teachers, Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan (may Allah preserve and protect him). Seeking the Aid and Assistance of Allah, I obliged and (I believe) we began our study on Saturday night, the eve of the 15th day of Muharram, 1436. [1] (This corresponds to November 8, 2014 on the modern pagan calendar.)

Shortly after we began this new weekly class, on the eve of the 11th day of Safar, I was given a precious gift – my copy of the book, al-Minhat ar-Rabbaaniyyah (the explanation of Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan, by my beloved brother, Abur-Rabee’ Nafees ibn Muhammad Moorefield (may Allah bless and protect him). As is my custom in receiving books as gifts, I made a note about that on the title page:
